Beloved spring flowers that can irritate a cat’s mouth and GI tract. Bulbs contain the highest toxin concentration; petals and leaves are less toxic but still irritating.

Symptoms of poisoning:

  • Mouth irritation
  • Excessive drooling
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain

What to do:

Immediate steps can help alleviate symptoms.

  1. Gently rinse your cat’s mouth with cool water.
  2. Offer a small amount of milk or yogurt to neutralize irritation.
  3. Monitor for difficulty breathing or excessive lethargy.
  4. Contact your veterinarian if symptoms persist or worsen.

  • Marigold (Tagetes erecta)
  • Snapdragon (Antirrhinum majus)
