Toxicity: ☠️ EXTREME DANGER – POTENTIALLY FATAL

Oleander

All parts contain cardiac glycosides extremely toxic to cats. Ingestion may cause severe heart problems, digestive upset, and can be fatal.

Also known as:

  • Rose Bay
  • Adelfa
  • Laurel Rosa

Symptoms of poisoning:

  • Colic
  • Diarrhea (possibly bloody)
  • Excessive drooling
  • Muscle tremors
  • Heart arrhythmias
  • Death (in severe cases)

What to do:

Immediate veterinary care is critical.

  1. Do not induce vomiting unless instructed by a professional.
  2. Collect a sample of the plant for identification.
  3. Call your vet or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.
  4. Keep your pet calm and quiet while awaiting medical attention.

  • Hydrangea macrophylla (Bigleaf Hydrangea)
  • Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica)
